Congress Implements Recommendations of BHEF's "An American Imperative" Report
Congress overwhelmingly passed and the President is expected to sign the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (H.R. 2669), which implements key recommendations of the Business-Higher Education Forum’s recent report. Current Initiatives
BHEF currently is advancing two initiatives:
- The College Readiness Initiative (CRI): An Agenda for Educational Success
- Securing America's Leadership in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM Initiative)
The first of these focuses on engaging corporate, academic and foundation leaders to address the pivotal issues in K-12 education: the need to improve student achievement, particularly in science and math, and thereby promote college/work readiness for all of America's students. The STEM initiative seeks to double the number of college graduates in the STEM disciplines by 2015 through identifying promising strategies to strengthen the education pipeline that leads to STEM careers.
