BUSINESS AND HIGHER EDUCATION LEADERS are deeply concerned about America’s ability to remain competitive in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Nothing short of transformational change in our nation’s educational system and, in particular, our mathematics and science teaching workforce can address these challenges. The Business-Higher Education Forum’s report, An American Imperative , provides a comprehensive action plan to transform the recruitment, retention, and renewal of our nation’s mathematics and science teaching profession.
On Wednesday July 11, 2007, an expert panel assembled on Capitol Hill and shared their front-line perspectives and experiences in a moderated discussion, after which they engaged the audience in a discussion about the report’s recommendations and its proposed action agenda.
