BHEF To Help Launch Business and Industry STEM Education Coalition
Washington, DC (March 5, 2010) —The Business-Higher Education Forum (BHEF), as a founding member of the Business and Industry STEM Education Coalition (BISEC), will take part in a March 12 launch event at the National Academy of Sciences Building in Washington, DC.
During the event, BISEC will announce its mission and goals, including an effort to double the number of U.S. bachelor degree graduates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from 200,000 to 400,000 by 2020.
“We are pleased to be a founding partner of this important coalition. By businesses and industry groups joining together, we can far better enhance and elevate the U.S. commitment to STEM, and more easily facilitate STEM education through private and public partnerships,” says BHEF Executive Director Brian K. Fitzgerald.
The launch event will be moderated by Miles O’Brien, journalist and host, “This Week in Space.” Confirmed speakers include Dr. Chuck Vest, president of the National Academy of Engineering; Norm Augustine, chair, Rising Above the Gathering Storm Committee; and BHEF member Richard “Rick” Stephens, Business and Industry STEM Education Coalition Planning Committee, senior vice president of Human Resources & Administration, The Boeing Company.
