CEO Brian Fitzgerald Highlights HEWI as a Gateway Initiative to Build the Innovation Ecosystem
Washington, D.C. (April 25) — Today, the Business-Higher Education Forum (BHEF) and ACT released a joint report with recommendations for strategic collaboration among business, higher education, and government to improve and create a more diverse talent pool for the American innovation workforce.
This report is a collaboration between ACT and BHEF. The report was created to offer recommendations relative to the results of The Condition of STEM 2013. The recommendations fall into three key markets: higher education, business, and government. We hope this report starts discussions and creates actionable steps to improve achievement levels in STEM-related fields. As a nation, we need to improve the STEM education pipeline, moving more individuals into the STEM jobs that will drive our economy in the future.
This issue brief discusses how data science has emerged as a tool across all industries, resulting in a high demand for data-science experts and data analytics-enabled workers.
The National Undergraduate STEM Partnership meeting will bring together many of the participants from the June workshop, as well as expand the number of partners. The goal of the meeting will be to explore tactical options and next steps for collaboration. The theme of the meeting will be centered on the term ‘scale.’ Participants will hear from thought-leaders at foundations, federal agencies, businesses, and universities about programs that have the potential to create national impact as well as to explore options and possibilities for disseminating learning.

BHEF past chairs and members Wes Bush, chairman, CEO, and president, Northrop Grumman Corporation, and William E. “Brit” Kirwan, II, chancellor, University System of Maryland (USM) will address the inaugural class of the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students (ACES) Program at the University of Maryland, College Park.
ACES is one of a dozen regional workforce projects led by BHEF members—Fortune 500 CEOs and university presidents—across the country.
The 2014 BHEF National Cybersecurity Network Workforce Summit will convene thought leaders from business, higher education, philanthropy, and the federal government to discuss new insights surrounding the implementation of the U.S. Undergraduate STEM Model and report on their progress as part of BHEF’s National Undergraduate Cybersecurity Network.
